Here's a short excerpt from Amy:

Amy had no idea what to make of the stranger in front of her. He might be one of the hottest guys she’d ever laid eyes on, but one minute he seemed to be mocking her and the next he was offering her some sort of proposition. Her best bet would be to take her bottle and simply walk away. There was no doubt that Cherie had been wrong about her prediction. This hunk was not her soul mate. However, there was something about him that made her want to hear what he had to say. Maybe it was nothing more than curiosity. But whatever it was, her feet were planted firmly on those rocks, at least for the next few minutes.

“I’m listening,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest.

“How would you feel if you weren’t single when your friends arrived—but a newly engaged woman instead?” His voice held a rasp of excitement.

Warning bells went off in her head that this man could be a little unbalanced. “What exactly are you saying?”

He sent her a wide smile. “That we should get engaged.”

She was becoming more uncomfortable as the conversation went on. “There’s something wrong with you.” She reached for her bottle, but he held it securely in his hand. There was a glint in the smoldering depths of his eyes that told her he was enjoying her struggle to remain composed.

“Don’t worry. We wouldn’t wind up getting married. After an agreed-upon amount of time, the engagement would be called off, and we’d go our separate ways.”

Awkwardly, she cleared her throat. “Why?”

“Why would we go our separate ways?”

“No! Why do you want to get engaged?” she asked as casually as she could manage.

“Because if I don’t, I’ll lose my job.”

She swallowed hard, trying to get out a feeble answer. “I’m sorry. This is crazy. I can’t get engaged to a stranger.”

Of course she can get engaged to a stranger. Why? Because it makes for great reading.
